'Terrified' Woman Was Kidnapped by Fake Uber Driver
Damian Watson targeted a lone woman, filmed her in his van and made sexual demands before a judge said the attack was pre-planned.
On Friday, Liverpool Crown Court sentenced Damian Watson, 36, to five years and six months in prison for kidnapping and causing a person to engage in sexual activity against their will after impersonating an Uber driver at Anfield.
Watson prowled Liverpool streets searching for vulnerable victims before parking his Mercedes van near the Shankly Gates, where he pre-planned the offense by mounting a mobile phone to film the backseat.
The victim entered the van believing it was her booked Uber, but Watson locked the doors, drove to a secluded Bootle alleyway, and forced her to expose herself while holding her captive for around 20 to 25 minutes.
Watson pleaded guilty on May 29, 2026, and Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Amie Gouldson praised the victim's "extraordinary courage" in helping secure justice; the court imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
Described by prosecutors as a "predatory offender," the former newspaper delivery driver will remain on the sex offenders' register for life, preventing future harm after his scheduled release.
