The Strait of Hormuz has become a flashpoint in the conflict, and yesterday saw a sharp increase in attacks on ships in the vital waterway. At least five ships were hit by missiles, including two oil tankers carrying Iraqi oil, causing oil ports in Iraq to shut down. Iran has effectively imposed a blockade on shipping through the strait, through which about a fifth of the world's oil exports pass, Skynews reports.
