Ida strengthens into Category 2 hurricane: Latest forecast
Ida strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane Saturday afternoon with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. The storm is forecast to intensify and become a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds before landfall in Louisiana late Sunday. Currently, Ida is moving northwest at 16 mph and its center is located about 290 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana.
