Extortions, fire bombings, shootings lead to arrest of 5 foreign nationals, RCMP say
Police say the investigation uncovered extortion, arson, shootings and drug trafficking, and led to 5 arrests after a 16-month probe.
On Thursday, Langley RCMP arrested five foreign nationals in their 20s for extortion, arson, and shootings targeting the South Asian community in Surrey and Langley, B.C.
Project E_PURSUANCE began in June 2025 after an auto dealership owner reported extortion demands, which escalated into targeted shootings and arson attacks at the business.
Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 28, Surrey Police Service recorded 142 extortions, 21 shots-fired incidents, 3 arsons, and identified 76 victims, including 39 targeted repeatedly.
On Oct. 1, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service laid charges against the five men for extortion, arson, and firearms offenses; one suspect was arrested via a "controlled operation" upon arrival from India.
B.C.'s extortion task force is investigating potential ties to the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though police note some criminals falsely claim high-profile gang affiliations to increase intimidation and profit.
