While there are three times as many people living in asylum centers as seven years earlier, the number of incidents has quadrupled, research shows. Citizens who oppose one of the many planned asylum centers are seizing on the new figures.

A relatively large number of unaccompanied children were involved in incidents in asylum shelters last year, the Ministry of Justice’s Research and Data Center (WODC) reported on Monday. But even though shelters have never been as full as they were last year, the number of asylum seekers suspected of a crime decreased.
The number of violent incidents in Dutch asylum seekers' centres increased by 21 percent in 2024. In total, more than 16,000 reports of aggression, violence and threats were made. This is evident from new figures from the Scientific Research and Data Centre (WODC), which falls under the Ministry of Justice and Security.
