Car Bomb Kills Military Officer in St. Petersburg
Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case as the suspect reportedly fled through Turkey to Moldova after the blast killed an officer and injured his wife.
On Thursday, August 27, an explosion on Kolpino Highway in St. Petersburg killed Major Sergei Sechkov, an officer in Russia's Aerospace Forces, while hospitalizing his wife.
According to the Ukrainian project Myrotvorets, Sechkov previously served as a major in the 332nd Separate Guards Helicopter Red Banner Regiment, though Russian authorities have not officially disclosed his identity.
The suspect, a 24-year-old woman, planted the explosive on Wednesday, August 26, then fled to Turkey and later Chisinau, according to Fontanka.
Ukraine's armed forces allegedly offered the suspect a deal to plant the bomb and escape Russia, with Fontanka reporting "certain people" had approached her months earlier.
Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case regarding the explosion, while the Federal Security Service identified the suspect and contacted Turkish authorities.
