Filipinos told to avoid areas near India-Pakistan border
- On May 7, 2025, India launched air strikes on multiple sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including dams and hydropower projects near the Line of Control and international border.
- India stated the strikes targeted nine sites linked to terrorist infrastructure to preempt planned attacks after a deadly April 22 assault killed 26 civilians in Indian Kashmir.
- Following the strikes, India and Pakistan exchanged intense shelling across Kashmir’s de facto border, causing civilian casualties and fighter jet crashes, while several airports and flights were suspended.
- Pakistan claimed 26 civilians were killed and 46 wounded by the strikes, alleged shooting down five Indian aircraft, and declared India’s action “an act of war” with a vow to respond forcefully.
- The Philippine Embassy in Islamabad advised around 30 Filipinos near the border to avoid non-essential travel, remain indoors, and prepare for evacuation, while urging a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
