Exhibition “Dunhuang – A Great Cultural Treasure” Opens at Hunan Museum
The show pairs rare relics with VR experiences and educational displays to promote Dunhuang culture during Hunan’s peak summer tourism season.
On June 30, the 'Dunhuang — A Great Cultural Treasure' exhibition officially opened at the Hunan Museum, enabling a cross-temporal dialogue between Silk Road civilization and local cultural heritage.
Rooted in decades of Digital Dunhuang project research by the Dunhuang Academy, the exhibition features more than 200 sets of precious exhibits, including over 20 Grade One Cultural Relics of China.
Original artifacts unearthed from the Library Cave are on display, boasting irreplaceable primary historical research value alongside Northern Wei Buddhist paintings and Han Dynasty bamboo slips.
A VR immersive interactive experience titled 'Journey into Dunhuang' allows visitors wearing headsets to explore cave spaces in 360 degrees and observe intricate mural textures in high definition.
Running through the peak summer season, the exhibition promotes Dunhuang culture with Deputy Director of the Dunhuang Academy Zhang Xiaogang, Deputy Curator of the Hunan Museum Li Lihui, and Deputy Curator of the Dunhuang Museum Su Xing attending the launch.
