Exercise Freedom on Social Media with Respect, Courtesy, Says King
The King said freedom online must come with responsibility and urged users to avoid insults, slander and fake AI images or videos.
- On Saturday, Oct 17, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, addressed the 105th UiTM Convocation Ceremony at the Tuanku Canselor Grand Hall in UiTM Shah Alam, urging public responsibility in digital communication.
- His Majesty warned against using social media to spread hatred or insults, while also cautioning against the misuse of artificial intelligence technology to create fake images or videos intended to embarrass others.
- "If you wish to criticise, do so constructively. If you wish to correct someone, do so with tact and consideration," the King said, emphasizing that differences of opinion do not justify hostility.
- The ceremony, attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Shahrin Sahib, will see 32,630 graduates receive degrees and diplomas.
- Separately, the monarch consented to renaming the UiTM campus in Petaling Jaya as the Tun Arshad Ayub Campus, honoring the late Arshad for his contributions to the institution since 1965.
