Doctors at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, Long Island, are using ketamine treatments to fight clinical depression – a medicine one patient says works better and faster than decades on Prozac.
Ketamine can successfully alleviate the suffering of people suffering from drug-resistant depression, says Lowan Stewart, one of the main pioneers in the field. However, ketamine treatment could be considered more as a steroid that provides an initial boost to the patient, and a lasting improvement in the quality of life is ensured by the person's own consistent psychological effort.
