Woman falsely identified as officer in Nowak case 'scared for safety'
The former Portsmouth constable says false online claims and AI posts have driven threats and forced her into a safe house.
Former Portsmouth police constable Christi Hill has moved to a safe house after social media users and AI platforms falsely identified her as an arresting officer in the Henry Nowak murder case.
Despite Hill having left the force 20 months before the December 2025 murder, her name and image were circulated due to a misinterpreted national police bravery award media release.
Accusing Hampshire Constabulary of a "clear lack of support," Hill stated, "It is alarming to see how quickly a piece of outdated media can be weaponised by algorithms and accepted as fact by AI platforms."
Hampshire Police condemned the "significant spread of misinformation" and threats against officers, while protests on Tuesday left eleven officers and a police dog injured near where Nowak died.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the police response to the night Nowak died, with a report on the case expected within the next three months.
