Gary Glitter appears in court charged with historical child sex offences

- On Wednesday, former pop star Paul Gadd, known as Gary Glitter, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court via video link facing four historical sex offence charges dating to the 1970s.
- Prosecutors allege Gadd committed unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 between 1978 and 1981 at his Kensington and Chelsea home.
- Prosecutor Jonathan Polnay stated Gadd would "invite her into his house where he then committed a number of serious sexual offences." During police interview, Gadd denied knowing the complainant and claimed allegations were false.
- Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring remanded Gadd in custody until his next Old Bailey hearing on September 2. The judge added it is "to be determined" whether the appearance will occur via video link.
- Gadd is currently serving a 16-year sentence imposed in 2015 for separate sex offences. He was returned to HMP Channings Wood in 2023 after breaching his licence conditions.
