Ex-Delta Gov Emmanuel Uduaghan Dies At 71, Oborevwori Mourns
His family said the former governor died after a brief illness, and Delta State leaders praised his years of public service.
On Monday, former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan died at age 71 in an Abuja hospital following a brief illness, the Uduaghan family announced in a statement signed by Toju Andre Uduaghan.
A medical doctor by profession, Uduaghan served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before completing two terms as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
The family statement described his passing as a 'profound loss to Delta State and Nigeria,' praying that God would grant his soul eternal rest while his legacy endured in the lives of those he touched.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed sadness over the death, describing Uduaghan as a 'detribalised leader' whose contributions to infrastructure development would not be forgotten, while praying for comfort for his wife Roli and the Itsekiri nation.
After leaving office in 2015, Uduaghan remained active in Delta State and national politics, and his death concludes a significant chapter in the state's political history marked by his infrastructure contributions.
