Humboldt Broncos Memorial Project Advances on 8th Anniversary of Bus Crash
Scott Thomas said 15.1 million dollars in donations and nationwide memorials helped families and survivors as he reflected on forgiving the driver.
Monday marks the eight-year anniversary of the 2018 transport truck collision with the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team bus in Saskatchewan, which killed 16 people and injured 13 others.
People across Canada honored victims by leaving hockey sticks on front porches, while a GoFundMe campaign raised $15.1 million to support families and survivors of the tragedy.
Scott Thomas, whose 18-year-old son Evan was killed, discussed forgiveness on Village Media's Closer Look podcast, stating "the easiest path forward is through forgiveness."
Choosing to forgive the driver who blew through a stop sign, Thomas said he wanted to "honour our son in a meaningful way" rather than carry hatred and anger.
Reflecting on eight years of support, Thomas expressed gratitude for Canada's warmth, saying the country "wrapped us up in their arms" and continues to do so.
On the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus accident, the hometown of this junior hockey team reports that work is continuing to build a worthy memorial for them.
