On the 27th, ahead of New Year's Eve, a test run of the bell was held at Chion-in Temple (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City), the head temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism, and the solemn sound of the bell echoed through the cold air of the ancient capital. The bell, cast in 1636, is approximately 3.3 meters tall, 2.8 meters in diameter, and weighs approximately 70 tons.
