Donald Trump’s White House UFC Plan Divides Republicans in New Poll
The UFC is footing the bill for the event, which is expected to draw about 4,000 people and has split Republicans.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump will host a $60 million UFC event on the South Lawn to commemorate his 80th birthday, featuring fights within an 87-foot octagon nicknamed "The Claw."
Preparations have been ongoing for 19 months, reflecting Trump's desire to re-energize young male voters who drifted from the GOP amid cost-of-living concerns and the war with Iran.
Inside a massive octagon nicknamed "The Claw," roughly 4,000 spectators will watch the bouts, while a federal lawsuit alleges the event represents a "volcano of corruption" for commercial interests using White House grounds.
Just 16 percent of Americans believe the event is appropriate, while 46 percent called it inappropriate, as President Trump faces criticism over his handling of inflation and the war with Iran.
With 41 percent of Americans describing themselves as "generally pessimistic" about the country's future, Trump's approval ratings remain low, complicating efforts to maintain support among the coalition that secured his 2024 election.
