On Saturday, Iowa kicker Caden Buhr made a 42-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to defeat Iowa State 16-13 in the Cy-Hawk rivalry game.
Iowa State built a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, but Iowa tied it before halftime on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Hank Brown and a 45-yard field goal from Buhr.
The Hawkeyes maintained a 284-255 offensive yards edge despite facing the Cyclones, who under new coach Jimmy Rogers kept Iowa out of rhythm on offense.
Iowa State safety Drew Surges left the game with an injury while the Cyclones led 13-10, and their final drive stalled when clock constraints prevented a snap with one second remaining.
Next Saturday, Iowa hosts Northern Iowa while Iowa State returns home to face Bowling Green, both seeking to build momentum from their week-one performances.
