According to the latest Eurostat publication, in January 2026, almost half, or 46 percent, of the consumption expenditure of EU households was accounted for by just three categories: food, housing and energy costs, and transport. However, a restructuring has begun in the expenditure structure over the past year: the share of leisure, sports and culture has increased, while that of transport expenditure has decreased.
