EU plans to fine Google high triple-digit million euro sum, Handelsblatt reports
The European Union plans to fine Alphabet's Google a high triple-digit million euro amount in an antitrust case, according to Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper citing commission sources.
The fine is expected to be the highest ever under the Digital Markets Act and will be announced before the summer break.
The investigation, launched in March 2025, concerns Google's alleged favoritism of its own services in search results to ensure compliance with local regulation.
The Commission prioritizes securing compliance over penalties, and Google has expressed willingness to resolve the case after addressing concerns.
