The EU could cut 300,000 industrial jobs due to competition with China <p>Eurometal predicts a loss of 300,000 jobs in the EU by the end of 2026 due to competition with China. The association is preparing a protest in </p>Brussels.
European industry warns that 300,000 jobs could be lost by the end of the year, on the basis of China's growing competition. Eurometal will organise a symbolic protest in Brussels on Monday, in which 10 coffins, representing among others "EU competitiveness", "employment in industry", and "European factories", will be carried around the headquarters of the European Commission.
Eurometal warns that competition from subsidized Chinese products threatens hundreds of thousands of steel jobs and could deepen European deindustrialisation, despite the new quota and tariff regime adopted by Brussels.
Up to 300,000 people working in factories in the manufacturing industry could lose their jobs if the European Union fails to stop "colonisation of the industrial sector".
