European industry warns that 300,000 jobs could be lost by the end of the year, on the basis of China's growing competition. Eurometal will organise a symbolic protest in Brussels on Monday, in which 10 coffins, representing among others "EU competitiveness", "employment in industry", and "European factories", will be carried around the headquarters of the European Commission.
On Monday, September 7, the European Metals Association (EUROMETAL) staged a coffin-carrying protest outside its EU headquarters to pressure the EU to strengthen its efforts to block the dumping of Chinese auto parts. The association predicts that due to the "colonization" of European industry by Chinese companies, the EU manufacturing sector will lose 300,000 jobs by the end of this year.
The European metallurgical industry warns that European production could lose a large number of jobs if the EU does not change its attitude towards the increasing penetration of Chinese producers into European supply chains.
