Blues Make Final Ethan Strange Call Ahead of Origin Decider
The 21-year-old back-up playmaker is available if Nathan Cleary or Mitchell Moses is unable to finish the match, Blues officials said.
On Monday, Ethan Strange passed a crucial fitness test at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, clearing the 21-year-old to play in Wednesday's State of Origin series decider.
Strange rolled his left ankle at training last Thursday, rated a '50/50' chance heading into the weekend. The Blues set Monday as D-Day to determine if the 21-year-old could maintain his spot.
Blues prop Mitch Barnett praised Strange's versatility, saying, 'You've seen what he did in game one.' Strange will provide cover from the six-man bench for starting halves Nathan Cleary and Mitchell Moses.
With Strange cleared, Matt Burton was released from the squad on Monday to return to Sydney, where he will prepare for the Bulldogs' upcoming clash with the Raiders.
The Blues will complete their captain's run at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday before turning their sights to pinching the series on enemy soil in Wednesday's decider.
