Estonia is planning to build new naval ships. The Minister of Defense says the ships should be built in Estonia. It has not yet been decided how many ships to build and which of the existing ones will still be used in the future. The Navy also needs larger and more seaworthy warships than the minesweepers currently in use.

Estonia will spend at least five percent of its GDP on defense next year, Prime Minister Kristen Michal said. He cited the threat posed to the Baltic state by neighboring Russia as the reason for the increase. According to Michal, the purpose of the increase in spending is to prevent any aggression.
