Irregularities and negligence in flood crisis management at every level – these are the findings of an audit conducted by the Supreme Audit Office (NIK). The NIK primarily highlighted the omissions in some actions related to the possibility of flooding in 2024.
The flood that devastated parts of Lower Silesia and the Opole region in the fall of 2024 exposed serious weaknesses in the state's crisis management system. The Supreme Audit Office's findings indicate that problems affected virtually all levels of government: from the Government Security Center, through voivodes and local governments, to institutions responsible for water management.
During the September 2024 flood, the RCB's alerts, crisis plans, and communications failed. The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has the greatest reservations about the Lower Silesian Voivode, who, despite meteorological reports, failed to declare an alert in the affected areas in time.
