KMT chairman urges Taichung Mayor Lu to take party helm - Focus Taiwan
Taipei, Aug. 23 (CNA) Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) on Saturday expressed his support for Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕), a potential 2028 presidential candidate, to succeed him, following the party's latest victory in a mass recall campaign.
The 823 recall vote concluded, and the Kuomintang (KMT) successfully navigated a major recall crisis. KMT Chairman Eric Chu publicly stated on the 23rd that he hoped Taichung Mayor Lu Shiu-yen would take over as the next KMT chairman. In response, Lu Shiu-yen announced on the 24th that she would not run for party chairman, stating, "During Taichung's most difficult economic period, my mother will stay home. I will keep my word."
KMT Chairman Eric Chu said today that he sincerely requests Taichung Mayor Lu Shiu-yen to take over as KMT chairman and shoulder the heavy responsibilities of party chairman. He and all outstanding youth teams will work hard and never be absent on the road to the KMT's return to power, and will fully support the KMT team led by Lu Shiu-yen to return to power.
