Rooney Urges 'Selfish Babies' at United to Look in Mirror
Rooney said the squad lacked responsibility after Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez questioned the coaching staff following United’s 4-1 loss.
On Thursday, Manchester United's all-time leading scorer Wayne Rooney called the club's players "selfish" and "like babies" after captain Bruno Fernandes questioned coaching tactics following Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League thrashing by Como.
Rooney's comments followed public criticism from Fernandes regarding manager Michael Carrick's game plan, while defender Lisandro Martinez attacked the club's hierarchy last week, pointing the finger at Jason Wilcox over investment concerns.
Speaking on The United Stand podcast, Rooney urged Fernandes and Martinez to "look in the mirror," accusing the players of deflecting blame onto others instead of taking responsibility on the pitch.
Manager Michael Carrick faces growing pressure with United winless in seven matches, as the team currently sits 20th in the Champions League standings and 13th in the Premier League.
After conceding in the second minute, Fernandes said United adopted a "mood of defeat," and despite Joshua Zirkzee's late goal, the club continues to struggle with competitive form.
