Enschede is the first city in the Netherlands to ban fatbikes from the city centre. The city council will almost certainly vote on Tuesday evening to ban them from the shopping and catering area, the so-called city estate. Lawyers doubt whether the plan will hold up in court.
The Enschede city council has voted in favor of a plan to ban fat bikes from the city center. The motion was initiated by VVD council member Rachel Denneboom. Although the motion was adopted, Alderman Marc Teutelink emphasized that a ban is not legally feasible. He nevertheless supported the plan, interpreting it as a study into improved safety.
