British Gas Shares Emergency Heating Warning Ahead of Storm Goretti
British Gas and Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks warn of power and heating risks from snow and freezing temperatures affecting over 400,000 priority customers.
SSEN announced contingency activations and sent text alerts to over 400,000 priority customers in central southern and southwestern England, amid storm forecasts.
The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning from 3pm on Thursday, January 8 to 6am Friday, January 9 covering the south west of England including BCP amid Storm Goretti forecasts.
SSEN has positioned teams and bolstered control-room staffing to reroute the network around faults, while British Gas provided step-by-step boiler and pipe checks including pre-call troubleshooting.
Households face heating loss from frozen pipes and pressure drops, British Gas warns, with more than 1.2 million customers calling British Gas engineers last winter, indicating potential service strain.
To prepare, households should bleed radiators and check boiler pressure, and Joanna recommends insulating pipes and fitting thermostatic radiator valves; British Gas customers could get up to £2,000 from its Energy Support Fund.
