Mitch McConnell Still Hospitalized over 2 Weeks After 911 Call for ‘Unconscious’ Patient
A spokesperson said the 84-year-old senator is working with staff while recovering, after EMS reported an unconscious person and CPR at his home.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for Sen. Mitch McConnell confirmed the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican "continues to improve" while remaining hospitalized more than two weeks after his initial emergency.
Emergency dispatch audio from June 14 revealed paramedics responded to McConnell's Washington, D.C., home for an "unconscious" person, with a dispatcher reporting "cardiac arrest" and "CPR in progress."
The 84-year-old senator has faced numerous health incidents in recent years, including falls, injuries, and unexplained freezing episodes during public appearances, raising questions about his capacity to continue serving in the Senate.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he has spoken with McConnell, who is "clearly dialed into what's going on," and that the senator "wants to be back, but I'll defer to his staff on when."
It remains unclear whether McConnell will return to the Senate when it reconvenes on Monday, July 13, as his office has declined to provide further details regarding his health status or the cause of his emergency.
