At the time of his re-election, the President of the Republic hoped for an unemployment rate of 5% in 2027. On Friday, INSEE announced a rate of 8.3%.
Unemployment in France continued to rise in the second quarter of the year, reaching the highest level in the autumn of 2020. The number of people without a job rose to 2.7 million, and the unemployment rate increased to 8.3% of the active population, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INSEE).
The unemployment rate has reached its highest level since autumn 2020, affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
The number of jobseekers, 2.7 million, has increased by 0.2, INSEE announced this Friday, 7 August. The Institute notes that, however, it remains well below its peak in mid-2015 (10.6%).
