Taco Bell Employee Accused of Pouring Boiling Water on Coworker, Causing Second-Degree Burns
Police say the coworker suffered second-degree burns and surveillance video allegedly captured the attack, while Henderson was released on a $5,000 bond.
- On July 18, Taco Bell employee Makayla Henderson allegedly threw boiling water on co-worker Chris Jones at a Memphis restaurant on Knight Arnold Road, causing second-degree burns on his arms, legs, groin and stomach.
- Investigators reported the confrontation began as playful joking when Jones hid Henderson's iPad and grabbed one of her T-shirts, though Henderson claimed Jones invaded her personal space and made inappropriate comments before she retaliated.
- Jones, who was treated at a burn center for second-degree burns, told WMC, "I didn't think she was serious at first." He described the injuries: "The skin came off. It's red, and it's gonna take a little time for it to heal."
- Henderson was released on a $5,000 bond this week after being arrested and booked into jail. She is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27 to face the aggravated assault charge.
- While Henderson claimed she "blanked out" after asking Jones to return her iPad, Jones insisted "she threw boiling hot water on somebody" and that there "has to have punishable actions" regardless of her explanation.
