Emmerdale Star Makes Shock Return to ITV Soap After Nearly 30 Years
ITV says Steve is pulled back by a detective daughter’s search for her father, while Kim’s past frame-up keeps a reunion off the table.
After 28 years away from the Dales, Paul Opacic is returning to Emmerdale as Steve Marchant, making a shock comeback after his estranged daughter, Detective Sergeant Thea Ramsden, tracks him down to uncover her biological father's identity.
Kim Tate previously framed Steve for attempted murder, sending him to prison years ago; a romantic reunion between the former spouses is now out of the question.
In a calculated move, Thea poses as a solicitor to contact Steve, luring him into a meeting under false pretenses. "He guesses something is afoot when Kim starts brandishing notes to keep him away," actor Paul Opacic said.
Steve wonders what is happening as Thea leaves him a jaw-dropping voicemail, though it remains unclear if he realizes he has a daughter or possesses secrets unknown to Kim.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said Thea is "determined to uncover the truth about her father," forcing Steve to confront his past and adding tension to the already strained relationship between Kim and Thea.
