KAMLOOPS, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 6 – Kamloops Search and Rescue continues searching Overlander Park waters after rescuing one person, with multiple emergency crews and RCMP involved, officials said.
- On July 6, 2025, emergency responders were dispatched to Overlander Park in Kamloops after a man was carried away by the Thompson River current as he entered the water to recover a stray volleyball.
- A man studying abroad at Thompson Rivers University entered the river near the Overlander Bridge and was swept away by a powerful undercurrent, with two friends attempting to rescue him but failing.
- Kamloops Search and Rescue, RCMP Air Services, and Kamloops Fire Rescue conducted a multi-agency search along the river and shoreline, which resumed early Monday morning after being called off overnight.
- RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier stated two men were rescued while the third disappeared below the water and has not been seen since, urging anyone near the riverbanks to report to Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
- Authorities caution that the Thompson River has strong currents making it hazardous during this season, and they continue their search efforts while urging the public to stay away from the area and report any relevant information.
