Elton John Releases Surprise New Version of Iconic Christmas Hit Song

Sir Elton John and Irish singer CMAT released a rock 'n' roll version of his 1973 hit "Step Into Christmas," available exclusively on Amazon Music from Thursday.
The duo first considered collaborating at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival, with Elton calling them "kindred spirits" and praising CMAT's "incredible personality" and Americana-rooted musical style.
CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, recently won Best Album at the Ivor Novello Awards for her third record, "Euro-Country," and is known for tracks like "Take A Sexy Picture Of Me."
Amazon Music selected the duet as its official Original Christmas song, positioning it to compete for the UK Christmas number one following Kylie Minogue's chart-topping "XMAS" in 2025.
While the original track peaked at Number Seven on the UK Singles Chart in 2025, Elton's legacy of 10 UK number one hits positions this reimagined version for potential chart success.
