The survivor of the captivity told Yedioth Ahronoth in an interview that his captors lied to him that his mother was dead and that his wife had left him. He also testified that he planned to escape from the apartment where he was being held, but was transferred to a tunnel before he could implement his plan. "Underground, you can't get out anymore. There, there's no difference between you and a dead person," he added.
