- On Thursday, General Dynamics Electric Boat announced it purchased Crystal Mall in Waterford, Connecticut, excluding the former Sears store, during a public event.
- To free waterfront room at Groton, Electric Boat said the purchase lets it expand engineering, training and software development supporting Columbia- and Virginia-class submarines.
- Electric Boat will occupy 542,000 square feet on the 42-acre Route 85 site, expecting 4,000 to 5,000 employees and renovations starting mid-2026 with operations by mid-2027.
- Officials noted the move will boost the regional manufacturing base, pledging to work with current mall tenants and retailers while new apartments nearby support workforce housing.
