Democrat Bob Harvie wins election to U.S. House in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District
The win gives Democrats control of a key Philadelphia-area battleground after House Democrats and Gov. Josh Shapiro backed Harvie's campaign.
On Wednesday, Democrat Bob Harvie won election to the United States House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick.
Serving as a Bucks County commissioner since 2019, Harvie previously worked as a high school social studies teacher and Falls Township supervisor, helping Democrats gain their first majority in four decades.
House Democrats identified the seat as a key target to flip, and Harvie benefited from the support of Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro throughout the campaign in this Philadelphia suburb.
The former FBI agent Fitzpatrick faced scrutiny for his abortion rights record and his vote against President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill."
Harvie criticized the incumbent for failing to hold public town halls and for not confronting Trump on affordability issues, including rising gas prices and trade tariffs.
