Democrat Tina Kotek Wins Reelection for Governor in Oregon
Decision Desk HQ called the rematch as Kotek led Drazan 54% to 43%, with a third candidate drawing under 3% of the vote.
On Tuesday, Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek won a second term, defeating Republican Christine Drazan in a rematch of their 2022 race, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Republicans sought to capitalize on voter frustration regarding the state's economy and homelessness during this year's contest, which limited polling showed as virtually neck and neck.
Early returns showed Kotek leading with 54.4% to 43% for Drazan, with more than one million ballots counted. A September DHM Research poll had shown 59% of Oregonians disapproved of the state's direction.
The victory secures another term for the advocate of reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ rights, whose first term included passage of House Bill 2002 strengthening gender-affirming care protections.
Kotek faces challenges after a difficult campaign where some labor unions declined to endorse her, while residents continue expressing disapproval regarding the state's direction.
