The SPÖ came to more than 40 percent in eight districts, in all of which it was more than 30 percent. The most popular SPÖ district was Vienna-Brigittenau. FPÖ and Neos were able to increase everywhere.
Vienna has been governed by the Social Democrats since 1945 – and will continue to do so in the future. Rarely, however, the party cut off as badly as in the local election on Sunday, to the delight of the FPÖ.
The right-wing FPÖ had won the parliamentary election in autumn. Now the capital of Austria chose a new state parliament. The extrapolation shows: Vienna ticks differently.
To evaluate the results, it is worth looking at 2015. At that time, the political conditions were within the norm - in contrast to 2020.
