7 of the Best Android 17 Features Available Now — From Bubbles to Screen Reactions
Google’s update adds floating Bubbles, screen reactions and tighter privacy controls, while limiting RAM-hungry apps to improve performance.
On Tuesday, Google released Android 17 to Google Pixel phones, introducing multitasking and privacy features. The update arrives in finished form but remains currently limited to the Pixel hardware lineup.
Following months of beta testing, the update shifts focus from Android 16's 'Material 3 Expressive' UI design to practical system features. This prioritizes efficiency over visual overhauls.
New features include 'Bubbles' for floating app windows and 'Screen Reactions' to record video during screen captures. Privacy tools include temporary location permissions and 'Mark as lost' in Find Hub.
Advanced tools like Gemini Intelligence and foldable gaming mode will launch in the coming months. Google says these features remain unavailable at launch, requiring further development before reaching Pixel devices.
Later this year, manufacturers including Samsung and OnePlus will roll out their own versions of Android 17. This staged release brings the operating system to a wider range of hardware beyond Pixel.
Google releases Android 17 and innovations that initially only receive pixel devices. However, all other Android users may also enjoy improvements and new features that come with the June drop.
