At Kornwerderzand the war remains alive: 'Awareness is unfortunately urgently needed'
The celebration of 80 years of Liberation will have a special meaning this year on the Afsluitdijk at Kornwerderzand. On Sunday, flowers will be laid at the monument for Captain Christiaan Boers at the Kazemattenmuseum, who held off the Germans here with his regiment in May 1940. On Liberation Day, the traditional liberation fire will also arrive here, which this year was personally collected in Normandy by a group of runners.
