Edmonton man charged with threatening PM Carney on social media platform X
Dwight Peter MacIntyre, 44, was arrested five days after the investigation began, and RCMP said he is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25.
On Thursday, authorities charged 44-year-old Edmonton resident Dwight Peter MacIntyre with uttering a death threat against Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on X.
The RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team began investigating the X user on September 4, arresting MacIntyre five days later.
Supt. Matt Johnson of the INSET division emphasized that online actions carry real-world consequences, warning "this is a time for increased vigilance" as the security environment evolves.
MacIntyre is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on November 25, though the allegations against him have not been tested in court.
This arrest follows similar threats against the prime minister, as police previously arrested a Calgary man last month and two men in Quebec earlier this year.
