TV Festival to Relocate From Edinburgh After 50 Years
Organizers said the move will cut delegate costs and support long-term growth, with around 2,000 attendees expected each year.
On Tuesday, organizers announced the Edinburgh TV Festival will relocate to Greater Manchester starting in 2027, ending its 50-year tenure in the Scottish capital following a strategic review.
Rising costs for delegates and organizers prompted the move, with board chair Fatima Salaria citing the need to address "accessibility, affordability and sustainability" amid the expensive Edinburgh Fringe period.
Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig championed the city's bid, which includes basing the event in St John's creative district and backing the move with a £10.5 million Screen Production Fund.
CEO Campbell Glennie stated the new venue allows the festival to "radically reduce the costs associated with attending" while providing scale needed to "scale up for long-term growth."
The final Edinburgh edition takes place this August, though organizers stressed their commitment to Scotland remains "active and important," with plans to maintain local editorial collaborations and partnerships.
