Forward progress has been stopped after a 4-alarm fire broke out in San Mateo County Saturday, authorities said. Lanes were initially shut down on both sides of I-280 between Farm Hill Boulevard and Edgewood Road after a car fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation.

Firefighters are responding to a vegetation fire along Interstate Highway 280 near Cañada College in Redwood City. The blaze, caused by a vehicle fire, has burned a total of 10 acres on the west and east side of the highway. As of 7 p.m., the fire stopped progressing.
