EBay Set to Lay Off 9% of Global Workforce
The layoffs follow 800 job cuts in February as eBay shifts spending toward faster-growing categories and re-commerce, the company said.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, EBay announced plans to eliminate around 1,100 jobs, representing about 9% of its workforce, as CEO Jamie Iannone moves to simplify operations and concentrate resources on faster-growing business areas.
These layoffs follow the removal of approximately 800 positions in February, when the company cut about 6% of its workforce as part of earlier efforts to streamline operations.
EBay shares have gained nearly 40% in 2026, outperforming the broader market's around 12% gain, while the company also rejected a $56 billion unsolicited bid from GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen.
In a memo to staff, Iannone asserted the company's strategy remains effective, stating "Continuing to capture the significant opportunity ahead requires us to make thoughtful choices about where we focus and invest."
The company is slated to report latest earnings next week, building on this year's $1.4 billion acquisition of fashion resale platform Depop, which expanded its reach among younger consumers and strengthened its re-commerce position.
