EastEnders Legend Shane Richie in Career Update Amid Criminal Trial
Shane Richie will pause EastEnders to play Muddles in Southend pantomime before his alleged drink-driving trial next year, the BBC said.
EastEnders star Shane Ritchie will take a break from his role as Alfie Moon this Christmas to star as Muddles in 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend.
Ritchie's temporary absence follows permanent departures of other EastEnders cast members and precedes his scheduled criminal trial for allegedly drink driving, set for November 2027 at Colchester Magistrates' Court.
Several cast members are departing, including Kellie Bright, Charlie Suff, and Aaron Thiara, who plays 'bad boy' Ravi Gulati, while Jessie Wallace is temporarily leaving Albert Square for a pantomime.
Lacey Turner, who has played Stacey Slater for over two decades, is competing in the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing and said she was "really sad" at the departures, adding "I always hope they will come back. They're part of the furniture."
Ritchie maintains extensive theatre links, having performed at the New Theatre in 2006 in a production of Scrooge and touring in 2025 with the Prat Pack alongside Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley, and Joe Pasquale.
