Earthshot prize: Prince William to travel to Brazil for awards ceremony

Five winning projects will each receive £1 million to advance environmental innovations aimed at meeting critical climate goals by 2030, organizers said.

  • Next month, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, will travel to Brazil to attend the fifth Earthshot Prize awards at the Museum of Tomorrow on November 5, where five winners each receive 1m.
  • At the halfway point of the Earthshot decade, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, said, `As we reach the halfway point of the Earthshot decade, I am truly inspired by this year's Finalists, which embody the urgent optimism sitting right at the heart of our mission.`
  • Nearly 2,500 nominations from 72 countries were reviewed by 575 nominators and an Expert Advisory Panel of over 100 specialists to select 15 finalists, including Matter of Bristol and Sydney's Quay Quarter Tower.
  • Previous finalists have collectively secured more than 4.8 million tonnes of CO2 and helped safeguard over one million square kilometres of ecosystems, with the Rio ceremony offering a global platform, organizers note.
  • In the run-up to COP30 in Belém, the Rio events will coincide with global climate talks as the awards are held for the first time in Latin America, with finalists announced four weeks beforehand.
