Four telluric movements were recorded on the afternoon of this Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in the department of Chocó, Colombia. The first three occurred in an interval of just six minutes and two of them exceeded 4 degrees of magnitude, according to reports of the Colombian Geological Service. The earthquakes that occurred on Wednesday add up to the chain of replicas after the devastating earthquake of August 10 that left more than three hundred dead.
The movements were perceived in different parts of the western part of the country, including Cali, one of the cities most affected by the earthquake of August 10, although so far no damage has been reported associated with these new events.
The Colombian Geological Service explained the difference between the replicas of the earthquake of August 10 and the subsequent seismic swarm recorded in the Colombian West, where around 1,600 events have been identified.
