Was There an Earthquake Today? 4.0 Missouri Quake Felt in Tennessee

Hundreds reported light to moderate shaking after the 4.0 quake, and the USGS said reports came from seven states.

  • A magnitude 2.1 aftershock followed in the same area, though officials reported no injuries or damage. The USGS had previously adjusted the main event's magnitude from 3.9 to 4.0.
  • Fayette County Emergency Management Agency officials were hosting a West Tennessee Seismic Safety Commission meeting when the quake struck. Participants cited the tremor as a real-time reminder of the importance of preparedness and coordination.
