Early Voting Begins Monday in South Carolina
State election officials said the opening-day total more than doubled 2022 midterm turnout and trailed the 2024 presidential pace.
On Monday, October 19, South Carolina voters began casting ballots for the 2026 general election, with nearly 100,000 residents participating on the first day of early voting.
State officials expanded the early voting period through October 31 to provide voters greater scheduling flexibility, allowing visits to any designated county center Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dr. Amy Sams, executive director of the Pickens County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, stated "I don't anticipate that we would have any wait longer than 30 to 45 minutes." Bluffton resident Burt Sky agreed, saying the process was "not as long as I thought it would be."
The general election concludes on Tuesday, November 3, when voters must cast ballots in assigned precincts. Separately, Charleston is accepting holiday parade applications from community groups until 5 p.m. on November 5.
Voters across the state are deciding critical races, including the governor's seat and the position replacing the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Election officials encourage voters to verify their early voting sites at scvotes.gov before visiting.
