New ePaper Doubles Color Definition for Clearer E-Reading

E Ink says Kaleido 4 doubles color gamut volume and boosts contrast by 50%, with refresh rates up to 18 fps for video playback.

  • On Thursday, October 15, 2026, E Ink announced the release of Kaleido 4, its latest color ePaper technology. Hanvon Technology's M10C II is the first device to feature the new display, delivering improved color and contrast capabilities.
  • The new display doubles the color gamut volume to more than 40K and increases white reflectance by 15% while boosting contrast by 50%. A new oxide TFT backplane enables faster refresh rates up to 18 fps, addressing previous generation shortcomings.
  • For note-taking, the M10C II incorporates a micro-etched tempered-glass surface to reduce glare and a digital pen offering 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity. These features create a more authentic, paper-like writing experience.
  • Hanvon Vice President Wang Jie stated the company aims to expand color ePaper beyond reading devices into productivity scenarios including professional document review. Currently, the tablet is only available in China and not expected on U.S. shelves soon.
  • E Ink pledges 100% renewable energy use by 2030 and aims to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company continues developing electrophoretic displays for eReaders, eNotes, retail media, and IoT devices across diverse markets.
